Take a Leap: What I Learned From a Frog
WOW, I can’t believe what happened this past week...
I had just gotten home from a long day at work and was ready to unwind. As usual, I grabbed Oliver, my 4-year-old black golden doodle, and headed out for our evening walk. But the moment I opened the door, I was met with an unexpected visitor—a bullfrog, sitting there, staring me down like I was trespassing on his property.
Caught off guard and a little freaked out, I rushed back inside, calling for Daniel. "There's a frog outside!" I half-shouted, half-laughed. To my surprise, Daniel wasn’t about to come to my rescue—leaving me to handle this frog myself. Thankfully, after what felt like a standoff, the little guy decided to hop along, seemingly realizing he was at the wrong place.
The next night, Daniel and I decided to take Oliver for his usual evening walk together. Everything was calm, until, out of nowhere, Oliver started lunging forward like crazy. Now, if you’ve ever had a dog, you know that kind of lunge. Usually, it means he's caught the scent of something tasty—probably a chicken bone someone carelessly tossed aside. Trying to settle him down, we realized this was no chicken bone.
To our surprise he was actually lunging at a frog.
At first, I didn’t think too much around the first sighting of the frog other than it being inconveniently timed, but something in me paused after the second encounter. Could this really be just random? After the third frog sighting a few days later, I knew there had to be more to this than a series of random and odd encounters. It was as if God was tapping me on the shoulder, telling me to slow down and pay attention.
Suddenly, I began asking myself more powerful questions:
What is trying to emerge in my life?
What’s the message here?
What is this frog trying to teach me?
I’d like to share with you two thoughts that came to mind after gaining new insights around frogs…
God has a plan and purpose for each of us; Our job is to align ourselves with that flow…
If a tadpole can grow into a frog; Imagine the possibilities of who you can become…
It’s funny how life works sometimes. The smallest, most unexpected things can carry the biggest lessons—if we’re open enough to listen.
I invite you to take just 3-5 minutes to reflect and become more aware of the subtle signs and whispers in your life.
What might the situations you're facing be trying to teach you? What new possibilities are beginning to emerge?
